Ash as series backstory

As with many stories, it began with a gathering of friends...

In the small seaside city known as Sunyshore, the gym leader, Volkner, was hosting a large tournament that was chosen to take place in his gym that year. As you may expect, Pokemon Trainer Ash Ketchum was very eager to join. However, his friend, Brock, had a bright idea. "Let's invite May and Misty to join in as well!"
"I think that's a good idea," said Ash's other friend, Dawn
"I've never met them before so I think this is the perfect opportunity to."
"Alright, sure, you guys go ahead and call them. I'm gonna go register!" Ash said as he dashed off to the gym.
We find our friends now sitting eagerly outside the nearby airport.
"Look, I think that's the plane!" Brock says, pointing at the sky.
"Yeah! That's them alright!" Says Ash, happy to see his old friends.
A few minutes later, the plane lands, and the trio rushes over to see them.
"Misty! May!" Ash yells, waving to them
When they meet, Dawn is the first to speak
"You two must be May and Misty. Ash has told me everything about you!"
"Yep," says Misty "and then you must be Dawn."
"I presume  that you two have already met each other on the plane?" Says Brock
"Correct," says May
"C'mon, guys, you have to register at the gym still!" Says Ash.
"You haven't changed a bit, Ash." Misty says
"Are you alright? You sound like you have a cold." Asks Ash.
"It's nothing. Just a little cough I've had since*cough cough* this morning."
"Yeah, I've had some odd coughs since this morning as well," Says May.
"Well don't go and get sick enough to miss the*cough cough* battle!" Says Dawn.
"You to, huh?" Asks Brock
"What? No no. It's hardly anything."
As it turns out, though, it was something, as the next day, all three girls were sick with a fever. The doctor had said that they would be alright, but could not go to the tournament.
"Awwww, man," Ash says as they walk back from the doctors office.
"Let's get you guys a hotel to stay at," says Brock. "Ash, you go ahead and take them off the list for the tournament."
As Ash strolls back to the gym, he hears a familiar voice.
"Ash? Is that you? Long time no see!"
"Duplica?" What are you doing here in Sunyshore?"
"I'm on my way to sign up for the tournament. You?"
"I'm on my way to take my sick friends OFF the list."
"Oh... That's too bad. "
When they get to the gym, Duplica sees the list and suddenly has a great idea.
"Ash, wait! Leave them on the list. I've got an idea you may like."
"What is it?"
"Well look. All three of your friends and you are all signed up for different days"
"Okay..."
"And I know how much you love to battle."
"Yeah..."
"Maybe YOU could go in their place! You'll get three times more battle time!"
"What!? That'll never work! The judges saw them when they signed up, so they know their faces."
"Have you forgotten who you're talking to?"
"You really think that'll convince them?"
"Completely."
Ash talked to the three girls and they said that they were Okay with it, as long as he didn't embarrass him/herself when he was them.
                                                     ...

"You look perfect!" Duplica says as ash poses in the Misty costume, mask in hand.
"You really think so?"
"It'll convince the judges 100%."
"Awesome! Let's go!"
"Wait! Don't forget the mask!"
"Oh yeah!"
Ash puts the mask on right as the announcer says: First up today: Misty who travelled all the way from Kanto to be here!
